Share the Dignity's sanitary drive kicked off last week, raising funds and awareness to ensure all woman in the community do not go without the basic necessities like pads and tampons.
Local campaign organisers Jill Francis and Alexia Talbot have placed collection boxes at various locations around the Bega Valley. They said all items collected will stay in the local area and be donated to women and girls in need.
“I think it is horrible to think that some women have to use toilet paper or newspaper as a replacement or that they have to choose between food or sanitary items,” Ms Talbot said.
“On top of helping women in need this drive also works to remove the taboo on talking about your period and I think that’s very important,” Ms Francis said.
Every item collected is registered, sorted and sent to local services that directly support women and girls in need.
Collection boxes have been placed in the following locations:
- Bega District News office
- Merimbula News Weekly office
- Brief Affairs
- Sapphire Aquatic Centre
- Tura Library
- Bega Library
- Bermagui Library
- Eden Library
- UOW Bega Campus
- Eden Coles
