Ozi Uni sea urchin roe from South Coast Sea Urchins picked up a gold medal along with Tathra Oysters’ Nelson Lake Sydney rock oysters in the prestigious awards’ From the Sea category.
South Coast Sea Urchins brought home the trophy last year and said to be named among the country’s top producers once again “was a real buzz”.
Keith Browne said he and Andrew Curtis have been growing their business over the past 14 years and sourcing markets for their product.
“For a lot of years they were considered more a pest and something not to step on,” Mr Browne said.
“Through our processing techniques and developing the environment there’s such a fantastic flavour.
”It was just a buzz,” he said of the Delicious awards presentation night.
“To be in a room with that calibre of chefs is mind blowing – and that they’re very happy to talk to you about your product is fantastic.”
