The Sea Eagles were almost back to a full roster after some recent injuries and absences, but couldn’t quite contain the host Lions on their own turf.
The Narooma outfit claimed the game 20-18-138 to Tathra’s 14-9-93.
Earlier the Sea Eaglettes ladies squad had comfortably defeated the Lionesses 13-8-86 to 2-2-14.
The Sea Eagles surged out of the gate, but the Lions were quick to counter and just two goals separated the pair at half-time.
Louis Coulton had a fantastic return to his peak form, leading from the front with five goals for the Tathra outfit.
However, in a concerted midfield effort, Shane Gartside and Troy O’Loghlin were both hot on his heels, bagging three goals apiece.
Dean Gartside kicked a pair and Brenton Mace closed out the goal scorers with a single six-pointer.
At the opposite end, it was the Lions’ club veterans leading the way as Rowan Hawkey and Jeremy Sly kicked four goals each.
The Narooma squad again proved lightning fast out of the middle and made few errors if they cleared the ball forward.
With two of the competition’s fastest teams – that play a fast-flowing style – much of the action was centered around the middle.
It was the middle men who stood out from both squads, with Chris Dwyer, Luke Taylor, Josh Wilkinson and Danyon Pilbeam all among the best for the visiting Tathra outfit.
The Lions proved just a bit too fast and outscored the Eagles in the third and final quarters to claim the win.
The senior men’s ladder has not shifted and the Sea Eagles still hold third.
Earlier, the Sea Eagles ladies held the top of the competition ladder with a comfortable win over the Lions.
The team is two competition points clear of the Eden Whalers as finals loom and the Lions proved little threat to the premiership contenders.
Casey Matthews added good impact for the Sea Eagles alongside regular guns Tarni Evans and Sam Crowley, kicking 11 goals between them in a stellar display.
The ladies were well-served by the regulars in the middle with some great forward movement by Cymmon Parker, captain Bec Foster and Elouise Russell.
The hosts were kept quiet with just a single behind until the third quarter, where Hollie Betts was the sole goal-kicker for the Lions.
Meanwhile, goals flowed easily for the Tathra ladies, particularly through the second and third quarters.
