In 2015 Mr Martin tried in vain to save the life of an 18-month-old girl who had tragically been found unconscious by her mother in the family swimming pool next door.
Mr Martin’s quick thinking on the day was thanked by NSW Lieutenant Governor Thomas Bathurst.
“It went really well, the whole day was enjoyable,” Mr Martin said.
“It was very short but sweet.
“We had a good look around the house, and took some photos.”
Mr Martin said the award will take pride of place at home next to an old railway clock, owned at one time by his father.
