As his prize for winning the competition Mr den Hertog will be heroed on the front cover of this year’s 2017 Bega Yellow Pages and White Pages with his four-year-old son Bailey, proudly showing off his family-famous lemon meringue cheesecake.
The search for Bega’s best baker exists as a result of a partnership between the Yellow Pages, White Pages and the NSW Country Women’s Association (CWA). All Bega directories will be used to celebrate the phenomenal achievements of the state’s largest volunteer women’s organisation, the CWA of NSW, their love of food and the areas’ finest baker.
Mr den Hertog won the hearts (and mouths) of a panel of judges, after a friend entered him into the online competition.
He said he was both surprised and thrilled to be chosen as Bega’s Undiscovered Baking Legend and credits his mum for his love for baking.
“I have lots of fond memories of mum baking cheesecakes for our family’s restaurant when I was little, ever since then I have loved baking, I just wish I had more time to bake.”
Not only will Marty feature on the front cover of this year’s Yellow Pages and White Pages, but his tantalising lemon meringue cheesecake recipe and ingredients will also appear on the inside front cover.
Distribution of the 2017 Bega Yellow Pages and White Pages cobound book featuring Marty den Hertog will take place from May 13.
