Vandals have caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to an Austinmer playground after setting equipment alight in the early hours of Friday.

Firefighters were called to the beachside playground about 2.30am Friday.
The found some of the plastic equipment alight or already melted beyond repair.
The equipment was cordoned off with hazard tape throughout Friday.
Police are calling on anyone with information about the matter to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
