Vice-president of the Bermagui chapter of the Cancer Research Advocate Bikers, Graeme “Spud” Struthers handed the cheque for $2042 to Lori Hammerton of the Bega Valley branch of Can Assist.
Ms Hammerton was most grateful and said the group could not provide its services without wonderful community-minded people such as the CRABs and everyone who participated in the golf day.
“We need the wonderful CRABs people,” she said.
Mr Struthers thanked greenskeeper at the Bermagui Country Club Dave Thomson, who also happens to be a CRABs member, for all his hard work in putting together the golf day, which was played on February 19 with 58 men and women participating.
There were some extra challenges thrown in for the golfers including teeing off from on top of a tyre and some very strange looking putters.
Bermagui Country Club men’s golf captain Ron Lye said it was a fun day and he hoped to make it even bigger and better next year.
Ms Hammerton said Can Assist had so far raised and donated an amazing $500,000, helping 337 cancer patients since it was formed 10 years ago.
And every month, it donated between $6000 and $9000 to people in Bega Valley battling cancer, helping with pharmacy bills, transport and accommodation costs and even prosthetics for breast cancer patients.
