The Bega District Band was formed in 1899, 10 years too late to play at the opening of the then-new Bega hospital.
But the band was available to play at the opening of the new Bega District Hospital on McKee Drive in 1957.
More recently, on April 4 this year history repeated itself when band provided music to entertain locals and officials at the opening of the South East Regional Hospital.
“I’m sure the band would have played at the opening of Bega’s hospital in 1889 if it was in existence,” Bega band publicity officer John Winson said.
“But two out of three ain’t bad.
“With continued community support our band will be available in 70 years’ time for the next new hospital!”
The month of April was a busy time for the band, with an Anzac ceremony at Tathra Public School on April 5 where the band was ably assisted by four pupils who are tutored by band members.
Other Anzac Day duties included services at Eden, Tathra, Bega and Wyndham.
Members of the band also played at the civic dinner for the Littleton Delegation at the end of March as part of the Sapphire Coast Big Band.
As always band members are on the lookout for new brass players in the shire.
An invitation is extended to all players and ex-players as well as those who would like to learn how to play.
Band practice starts at 7pm each Monday night in the Bega District Band room on Canning St, Bega.
As a community band, members of the community are welcome to any practice session.
