The final tally might not stop there either, as technology applied studies teacher at Bega High Ann Smith said the money keeps rolling in as the participating students collect it.
Around 30 socially conscious students in Years 7-10 participated in the challenge.
Some gave up food for a weekend, some furniture and some electronics like their mobile phones.
Ms Smith said school meetings were held to get the kids inspired and she created a school team on the 40 Hour Famine website for the students to join.
Esther Black of Year 9 raised the highest amount for a single student, almost $500, and gave up furniture, technology and television.
“I found furniture the hardest because you can’t sit on anything,” she said.
Of course she couldn’t use a bed either and had to sleep on the floor.
Esther said she participated in the 40 Hour Famine because she liked “supporting that kind of cause”.
