The teen clinic is a free service that provides local teenagers with the opportunity to talk to a registered nurse in a non-judgemental environment about a wide range of medical and non-medical issues.
“We have an increasing number of young people attending the practice looking for health care or education on issues that they have to deal with as part of their everyday life,” Dr Duncan MacKinnon said.
“The nurses are there to help advise young people allowing them to make educated, healthy choices”.
We encourage all teens to discuss their visit and decisions with their parents, guardians or their family GP.
"We have parents who accompany their child to the clinic as well as groups of friends who arrive together supporting each other."
Liz Scott the Health Promotion and Youth Health officer at Southern NSW Medicare Local has been helping get the word out to local teenagers the teen clinic is up and running.
“We have visited the local high schools and presented to them what the clinic is all about and how it operates,” Ms Scott said.
“We have had great support from the teachers and counsellors we have met and the students have been very responsive about this initiative.”
The teen clinic is held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2pm–5pm.
No appointment is necessary.
There are no out-of-pocket expenses and all visits are strictly confidential.
