The Hercules came in low and loud, flying the length of Carp St and directly above the crowd who stood in awe – and losing their place in the Recessional hymn the flyover interrupted.

The flyover, which took in towns from Kiama to Merimbula, had been organised by the Eurobodalla and Far South Coast National Servicemen’s Association.

Group Captain Carl Newman, Office Commanding of No. 84 Wing at RAAF Base Richmond, said Anzac Day is an opportunity for all Australians to remember the ultimate sacrifice paid by those in service to our nation.

 “On Anzac Day, we remember not only those who served in the First World War, but also those in subsequent conflicts over the past century,” Group Captain Newman said.

 “The flypast by the Hercules on Anzac Day acknowledges those who have served Australia in past conflicts and the service of the 2240 Australian Defence Force personnel who are presently deployed on operations.”
