A total of 24 teams of three members played four games of 10 ends on the Saturday, three games of 12 ends on Sunday and two games of 12 ends on Monday.
The club was lucky to have only a light drizzle on Saturday as heavy rains fell north of Bega and inclement weather on Monday didn’t stop bowlers completing the tournament.
The overall winner of the tournament was the team of Dylan Cutbert, Michael Wilks and Ron Maloney, who took out A grade from runners-up Howard Blacker, Lynton Riddell and Bruce Tait.
The winners took home a cheque of $2400.
During presentations, bowlers commented on the tremendous order the Bega greens are in at the moment and said they were a delight to bowl on.
However, the lower green was running at a solid pace providing some trouble for plenty of bowlers.
Green keeper Ken Snowden joked that it was “curator’s revenge”.
Tournament organiser, and Bega club stalwart, Howard Blacker said “It had been quite a few years since a tournament of this stature had been held at Bega and was relieved that everything ran smoothly”.
Blacker also thanked the bowlers, especially those who travelled and the tournament sponsors Tarra Motors, Elders, Bega Village Motor Inn and the Grand Hotel.
“All in all it was a great success and the Bega Men’s Bowling Club looks forward to running it again,” Blacker said.
