The 142nd Bega Show will be officially opened on February 20 at 7pm by the NSW Governor, General David Hurley (Ret’d).
It is most fitting he will open the Bega Show as this year is the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.
Part of the opening ceremony will be honouring the 185 servicemen from the Bega Valley who lost their lives in WW1, including in the Gallipoli campaign.
The Bega Show Society is trying to contact as many descendant families of these 185 soldiers as possible and invite them to attend the official opening.
A representative of each family will then place a handmade, ceramic Flanders poppy in a commemorative display.
If you are a descendant and would like to join the proceedings, you can register with Bega Show Society secretary Narelle Griffin at begashowsecretary@hotmail.com or call her on 0427 921 452.
