Motorists had been passing the fire under alternating stop/slow traffic control.

Traffic has returned to normal and there are no delays to motorists in the area. 

High winds continue to affect roads in the alpine region including the Snowy Mountains Highway, Kosciuszko Road and Alpine Way.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and drive to the conditions. 

Earlier, the Monaro Hwy was closed in both directions with emergency services working to bring the grass fire under control.
