FINALISTS for the 18th South Coast Regional Tourism Awards for Excellence in Tourism have been announced, featuring many businesses and events from the Bega Valley.

Tathra scored highly with Sapphire Spa and Massage, Tathra Beach and Bike and Tathra Beach Family Park all earning finalist nominations, as did Merimbula with Fairway Motor Inn, Merimbula Visitors Centre, NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park and Sapphire Waters Motor Inn.
Bermagui business Bellbird B&B and Art on Hart Accommodation made it in, as did Eden’s Cat Balou Cruises, Sprout Eden and the Eden Whale Festival.
Tathra Beach and Bike is going for its third award in the prestigious event - in 2013 Beach and Bike won the award for general tourism service or product, and in 2012 was successful in the specialist tourism services category.
Also in 2013, Cat Balou Cruises won the ecotourism award and NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park was granted the honour for tourist and caravan parks 4AAA rating and above.
In 2012, Tathra Beach Family Park received a highly commended in the tourism and caravan park category.
The South Coast Tourism Awards are the principle tourism event on the South Coast of NSW and celebrate the very best of the best in this $2billion per annum industry.
Entrants in the awards stretch from Eden to Nowra, out to Kangaroo Valley, and some businesses are finalists in more than one category
The winners will be announced at a black tie gala presentation dinner at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on August 27.
Chair of the South Coast Regional Tourism Organisation Brian Longbottom, congratulated all finalists and wished them all the best for the announcement of winners.
“The standard of entry was extremely high and the competition between the businesses demonstrates the aim of all the entrants to present the best possible tourism experience to the visitors to the South Coast of NSW,” Mr Longbottom said.
