Led by a carpenter with 25 years’ experience, Jo Saccomani, Woodworking for Women is a beginner’s course held at the Two Sheds Workshop in Bega.
Ms Saccomani said women of all ages have taken part in the workshop, including a 70-year-old who had gone along to learn.
“There’s a lot of interest,” she said.
“Women constantly say ‘I wish I had’ or ‘I never got to do woodworking’.
“The idea is I’m trying to get people to a level of skill so I can teach on site to do things like deck building.”
She said participants are often surprised at how easy it is to do many tasks.
Attending on Sunday were Sally Pryor of Central Tilba and Jenny Van Stekelenburg of Dignams Creek, who were enjoying the workshop immensely.
“It’s been fantastic, I’ve learnt such a lot,” Ms Pryor said.
“It’s so satisfying to do something with your hands, where you are actually creating.”
In their workshop, the women were making an ornate shelf.
“It’s so good, it really is,” Ms Van Stekelenburg said.
“We are learning all sorts of things.”
The next workshop will be held on July 19 and 20 and for more information contact Ms Saccomani on 0419 286 507 or josaccomani@hotmail.com
