Despite other fields suffering frosty winds gusting up to 40km per hour, the Eden field was calm said Tigress midfielder Caitlin Johnson.
“The weather in Eden was great and there was no wind at all,” Johnson said.
Meanwhile, she said it was a challenge facing the Killer Whales as they were “fit and skilled”.
It was Eden’s goalie-turned-striker Kamilla Grubesic doing the damage on the day with a double.
“Eden’s star goalie swapped to the midfield and had plenty of support from Debbie [Heron],” Johnson said.
“She broke through the Wolumla back line to score two quick, and well-placed, goals.”
Johnson said the shots were nearly unstoppable.
“The shots they had were one-on-one which are extremely hard to save.”
The Eden squad had the lead 2-0 at half time with returning Tigress Ayla Smith taking on goalie duties.
“Ayla went in goals second half because her knee was starting to strain on the field,” Johnson said.
“With Jesse Gibbs back to the sweeper position our defence was much stronger.”
Both sides struggled for control, with the Tigresses earning some more possession than the first half.
“Our second half was better, we were able to push the ball around more.
“But that still wasn’t enough to get us on the board as we couldn’t get it to the feet of striker Sam Johnson.”
The wing attack worked well for the Tigresses with Veronica Clift and Amy Legge making plenty of metres down the sideline.
However, it was one of the team’s newer members impressing.
“We had Jane Woolacott sharing the wing and she eventually went to striker,” Johnson said.
“She dominated her positions, contested every ball and won most of them.”
Midfielders Kirsty McPaul and Kirsty Whitby-Mcbeath provided plenty of support, but the Tigresses were unable to capitalise.
A second half goal came through for Eden off a well-placed corner kick and the home side took the win 3-0.
