Richard Michael Harrison, of Eden St, Candelo, appeared appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court on May 12 via audiovisual link on a charge of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Police facts state Harrison went to the home of the victim, at another Candelo address, at 1.45pm on January 31 this year, moving a gate to gain access before asking the victim if his father was home.
When the victim said “no”, Harrison started abusing him and then offered to shake his hand.
When he refused, Harrison swore at him and invited him to “come out to the park and have a smack (fight)”.
The victim asked Harrison to leave several times, but he refused, and then Mr Harrison said: “I will come back with a chainsaw and bust down the door, and I will light your Dad’s Harley on fire”.
He then attempted to “get in the victim’s face” before leaving while screaming abuse.
Later, the victim heard and then saw Harrison revving a chainsaw outside his house.
Harrison swore at the victim, called him a coward, and again instructed him to “come out and have a smack” before leaving.
The police were called and went to Harrison’s house.
He walked towards police, who drew their tasers before getting him on the ground and handcuffing him.
They searched him and found a 10cm-long knife.
After he was arrested and taken to Bega Police Station, he told officers of the victim: “the guy is just gutless. I went and got a chainsaw and carried it around.”
Harrison confessed to police he had 12 drinks of Johnnie Walker Red Label prior to the incident.
Police said Harrison was overcoming an addiction to methylamphetamine (ice) and suffers from bi-polar disorder.
He received an 18-month jail sentence with a six-month non-parole period.
