Students in the school’s Permaculture class grabbed their shovels on Tuesday to repair flood damage from the last few years along the lane.
The students, together with Bega Lions Club members, dug holes and replanted a number of pin oak trees.
Participants were given an opportunity to learn about the Lions club and how their assistance relates back to the local community.
Permaculture was introduced at Bega High School this year and the class hosts students from Years 8-10.
The Bega Lions have been busy replanting trees in areas damaged by floods.
After attending a recent Lions meeting, acting school principal Tom Gorman volunteered the Permaculture students to lend a hand with the project.
Bega Lions Club president Robert Jeffery said he was grateful to receive the support.
“We are very happy with the students’ attitudes and they are a great bunch of kids,” he said.
“They will now see the job right through by keeping the plants watered and ongoing maintenance of the trees.”
The next step in the Lions project will see the class assist with landscaping at the Bega Skate Park.
This task is expected to be completed over the coming year and Mr Jeffery said the project was important to a number of the students, who are interested in skateboarding.
