A Bega Valley Shire Council water sample was announced the best tasting at the Water Industry Operator’s Association (WIOA) conference held in Orange.
BVSC took the award with stiff competition from grand final hopefuls Nambucca Shire Council, Wingecarribee Shire Council and also the host, Orange City Council.
The trophy and jersey were presented to members of BVSC’s water and sewer operations team who all attended the conference and awards.
Water and sewer operations supervisor Keith Hyatt said it was great for such a small community to achieve an award as big as this.
“It’s a real credit to the water and sewerage team as they have an enormous task keeping the system flowing through rain, hail or shine,” he said.
“Our sample wasn’t taken from a section in the treatment process like most other samples were, it was taken from my bathroom sink because we wanted to show that the water you get from your household tap is worthy of this award!
“In early June we will send a team up north to compete against the winner from Queensland.
“We work hard to keep our water at the highest quality and we wish our team the best of luck in representing NSW,” Mr Hyatt said.
