After much fanfare and plenty of anticipation, liquor franchise Dan Murphy’s has opened its Bega outlet as part of the Sapphire Marketplace development.
Customers were already scoping the large range of fine wines, boutique beers and countless spirits and liqueurs gleaming in the brand new store on Wednesday, ahead of tomorrow’s official opening ceremony.
Tomorrow will involve a ribbon-cutting and, of course, cake, with festivities getting underway at 9am.
Local Girl Guides will be manning a barbecue and a local radio station will be transmitting live from the store from noon, while Dan Murphy’s Bega store manager Cathy Whybrow said several wine company representatives will be offering tastings throughout the day.
Ms Whybrow has returned to her old stomping ground, as she was previously the store manager for Woolworths for five years before a stint in Canberra.
“I’ve been with Woolworths for 19 years in supermarkets, I’ve just changed divisions,” Ms Whybrow said.
She will be backed up by two assistant managers with just as much experience in the supermarket industry, and a team of locals able to help with all customers’ queries.
“We are also looking forward to holding regular workshops and tastings to educate the community on the wines and beers we stock.”
Dan Murphy’s prides itself on its extensive range and low prices, and is especially excited about the prospects of its Bega store.
“I don’t think Bega’s seen anything like this,” Ms Whybrow said.
