Students from Year 7-12, teachers and guests joined together in the school hall for an early Anzac Day ceremony.
The event was held on the last day of Term 1 because Anzac Day falls during the school holidays in 2013.
Special guest at the ceremony included Bega RSL sub-branch representatives Ken Witchard and Ewan Munro, and Bega District Band’s Terry Twyford and Ray Barling.
The theme for the ceremony was “women at war” and emcees Tas Fitzer and Monique Meaker kept proceedings moving at a good pace.
After Tas delivered the welcome to country and Monique gave an opening speech, the crowd was treated to a musical item by students Molly Willington and Elya Bartholomew.
Molly was lead singer and Elya strummed the guitar and provided back-up vocals for their rendition of Bloom.
The next part of the ceremony saw student Joccoaa Lee reflect on the role of women in wars.
Karlee Barber then retold the story of Vivan Bullwinkel, an Australian army nurse during WW2.
Ms Bullwinkel was the sole survivor of the Banka Island Massacre on Radji Beach, Indonesia on February 16, 1942.
The Year 11 Music class then performed a cover of the Louis Armstong classic What A Wonderful World, before Mr Witchard and student James Mason laid a wreath at the foot of the stage on behalf of the school.
The final stage of the ceremony saw Mr Twyford and Mr Barling deliver The Last Post, before everyone sang the Australian national anthem.
Afterwards, members of the official party and special guests enjoyed a morning tea at the school.
