WELL-respected local GP Dr John Rogers has been honoured for more than 35 years of service to the Muswellbrook community at the prestigious 2017 NSW Rural Medical Service Awards. The ceremony recognises GPs who have provided long-standing medical service to the people of rural, regional and remote NSW. Dr Rogers’ award was presented by the NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN) during its annual Rural GPs Conference dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Coogee Beach, Sydney, on Saturday, November 25. He was accompanied on the night by his wife Christine, daughter Leanne and son-in-law Emanuel. “John has made a significant contribution to his rural community by providing high-quality continuity of care,” RDN CEO Richard Colbran said. Dr Rogers, who practices at Brook Medical Centre, is Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at Muswellbrook District Hospital, having practiced rural obstetrics for 25 years. He has also been instrumental in the development and growth of Brook Medical Centre from seven to 17 doctors, enabling the practice to achieve RACGP Practice of the Year in 2006. “It is rare for rural doctors to be formally recognised for the outstanding contribution they make to their community and acknowledged for the work they do,” Mr Colbran said. “This award provides a unique opportunity for the people of Muswellbrook to recognise the difference that Dr Rogers makes to the health and well-being of the community.” The dinner presentation was attended by more than 200 guests, representing GPs from across rural, regional and remote NSW.
