The bookshop, located on Carp Street in Bega, put out a Facebook post on Monday, March 19 inviting people who may have lost their own books to the fire to come and pick up one from them.
Since then, store owners Myoung Jae Yi and Marianna Ypma have seen a number of residents drop in.
“A couple that lost their house came in with their kids the other day and each picked something up, including some children’s books,” Mr Yi said.
“There is obviously a lot going on for people in Tathra at the moment, but when their minds turn to books, we’ll be here.”
Candelo Books has also donated some of their stock to Bega Valley Public School as raffle items in their Tathra fire fundraiser and invited other fundraisers to get in touch if they needed similar support.
Since their original Facebook post, the store’s supplying publishers Allen and Unwin and Haper Collins have begun sending free books down to help their efforts.
The publishers have also placed an advertisement in the Books and Publisher Magazine calling for other suppliers to do the same.
“So we’re expecting more to come through the doors, this is a long-term thing, so there is no rush,” Mr Yi said.
“There’s going to be a lot to choose from, so we will let people know what is here as it arrives.”
