As of Thursday morning, most had been allowed to return to town and many were assessing the damage with 69 homes destroyed in Sunday’s fire.
Country Rugby League CEO Terry Quinn said the donations are just the beginning of the assistance the town and club may require in the coming months.
“Our thoughts are with the Tathra community during this incredibly difficult time,” said Quinn.
“We’ve been in contact with the Tathra Rugby League Club as they continue to assess any damages caused to their facilities and equipment and will continue to work with them and offer our support to assist in any way we can to get them back on their feet.” he said.
And it’s not just the CRL throwing support behind the cause, but the Sapphire Coast AFL has already pledged to donate the gate-takings from this weekend’s Lightning Cup draw in Eden.
“We will be contributing the gate from this weekend’s pre-season tournament to help those affected,” AFL NSW/ACT coordinator Jarrod Moore said.
“We have strong ties with the club and people of Tathra and this is our way of helping the community begin to rebuild.”
A Group 16 representative said the board were arranging similar fundraising efforts for the pre-season Nines tournament to run in Pambula on Saturday.
The spokesman said the gate-takings were the right of the Pambula club, but Group 16 were coordinating donation tins for the day and encouraged people to give what they could.
Mr Quinn said it was key to donate funds through the right avenues.
“The Mayoral Appeal Fund has been set-up to consolidate all fundraising efforts for the community and the gate takings from this weekend’s Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cup matches is just the first step in assistance that we can provide the people of Tathra.”
CRL matches will be played in Wingham, Grafton, Leeton, Goulburn and Camden.
For those wishing to contribute, donations to the Mayoral Appeal fund fund can be made by both bank transfer and credit card.
Bank transfer details: BSB: 012525; Account number: 837535154
Credit cards: Phone (02) 6499 2345 during business hours (9am to 4.30pm).
Bega Valley Shire Mayor said all donations were now tax deductible and that she had been overwhelmed by the shows of support from the community.
