A smaller course was set to match the conditions, and after an hour of racing the boats all finished with 7 minutes of each other.

Winners of race one were the Sabres; Neil Fisher first, Brett Occleshaw second and Bob Harris third.

Race two saw slightly increased breeze and a longer course. This turned out to favour the faster, later-starting boats.

Winners were Tony Hastings and Luca Dorrough on a borrowed 29er skiff, ahead of Terry Ubrihien’s Nacra catamaran, and Josh and Jarrah Dorrough’s NS14.

The day featured several firsts; Sandra Behrendt had her first solo sail on a dinghy, Zoe Pentin completed here first race as a skipper, Darren Lydiard sailed his new keelboat for the first time, and Josh Dorrough’s boat sported a new set of sails.

The club passed on their thoughts to everyone affected by the devastating fires on Sunday. 

“After such a perfect day, we are all shocked and saddened by Sunday’s fire,” a spokesperson said. 

This weekend the club will host two point score races.

The club is still beaming on the back of the annual regatta’s success and said now was a fantastic time for anyone looking to take up the sport to join. 

The club offers weekly training sessions for new starters, which are free, you simply have to become a member of the club.
