THE Daniel Lacey coached Illawarra Steelers Tarsha Gale side chalked up their fifth straight victory to open the season on Saturday, by defeating the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 64-14 at the Collegians Sporting Complex.

Group Seven product Rhiannon Brown (Bomaderry) opened the afternoon’s scoring in the 16th minute – which started a onslaught for the home side.
They then run in another seven tries through Lilly-Rose Bennett (20th minute), Taneisha Roberts (22nd), Keeley Davis (22nd), Lilly-Rose Bennett (26th), Taneisha Roberts (28th), Bronte Girdler (29th) and Maddison Weatherall (33rd) – while only conceding two four-pointers through Joy Tedeschi and Sydney Topine.
The Steelers scoring slowed down in the second half, only managing four tries to one – with Lilly-Rose Bennett, Victoria Barham, Maddison Weatherall and Bronte Girdler recording tries.
The final try on the game was scored by Bulldogs Sydney Topine in the 58th minute.
With the boot, Keeley Davis landed six conversions, while Bronte Girlder nailed two in the win.
Other Group Seven products in the match included Dakotah Mannering (Bomaderry), Bronte Girdler (Stingrays), Abbey Montgomery (Milton-Ulladulla), Chantelle Newman (Milton-Ulladulla) and Hannah England (Milton-Ulladulla).
Unfortunately, both the Steelers’ Harold Matthews and SG Ball sides suffered defeats at the weekend, both losing to the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.
Despite tries from Brandon Morkos (two), Tyrone Roberts and Talatau Amone, the Harold Matthews side, which includes Group Seven’s Joshua Coric, Harley Nizza and Cooper Tunbridge (all Albion Park-Oak Flats) and Riley Wooden (Milton-Ulladulla), lost 30-24.
The Matt O’Brien and Jono Dallas coached SG Ball side didn’t fair any better, losing 42-24 – despite tries from Kane Ball (two), Dylan Lucas, Blake Dowel and Jayden Sullivan.
Group Seven juniors in this team include Jack Walsh (Albion Park-Oak Flats), Tarje Whitford (Milton-Ulladulla), Blake Dowel (Warilla-Lake South) and Samuel Hooper (Warilla-Lake South).
In round six, all three sides will take on rivals St George at Jubilee Oval.
