More “very good news” was alluded to on Friday as Member for Bega Andrew Constance announced state government support for free health checks at the Indigenous All Stars rugby league day this coming Saturday, March 10.
Mr Constance didn’t elaborate but took the opportunity of the Bega morning visit to briefly chat with BVSC director of community, recreation and leisure Anthony Basford about the council’s masterplans for the Bega and Pambula sporting precincts.
“We’ve just put in another $100million into regional sports and are about to really see the power of asset recycling,” Mr Constance said.
“We’ve been working with local sports clubs and with council – it’s important to see not all money is going to Sydney.”
Mr Basford said he was very hopeful of possible future announcements and government funding for the masterplans.
“We know sports bring people together and are an important part of community connections,” Mr Basford said.
“But you need to have grounds and facilities fit for purpose.
“We’ve done a lot of work here and in Pambula and if they come together we will have two regional centres of excellence open to a multitude of sports.”
