Tilba Real Dairy continues to expand its trophy cabinet after winning Champion Cream at the prestigious 2018 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce competition.
But the little dairy at Central Tilba also took out a whole swag of other awards at this year’s competition:
- CLASS: 6 White Milk, non homogenised – Tilba Real Dairy Full Cream Milk won Gold, 18 points
- CLASS: 10 Skim Milk – Tilba Real Dairy Low Fat Milk won Silver, 17.33 points
- CLASS: 31 Haloumi, plain and/or flavoured – Tilba Real Dairy Haloumi won Gold, 18.7 points
- CLASS: 38 Cheese, Fetta, flavoured – Tilba Real Dairy Persian Fetta won Bronze, 16.67 points
- CLASS: 41 Cheese, mould ripened – Tilba Real Dairy Mountain Ash Camembert Style won Silver, 17.7 points
- CLASS: 80 Pure Cream – Tilba Real Dairy Double Cream won Gold, 18.33 points
- CLASS: S016 Champion Cream – Tilba Real Dairy Double Cream – winner
“I am very proud and very pleased with the results,” Mrs Dibden said. “It just makes us want to do better next year and there is always room for improvement.
“It would be great to win Champion for our milk next year.”
She paid tribute to her whole operation from those Jersey cows in the paddocks, to the milkers and workers in the factory, including cheesemaker Troy Charnock.
“It’s the pure water, lovely clean air and magnificent soil that all goes into making the products,” she said.
Tilba Real Dairy has won numerous gold and silver medals at previous Sydney Royal competitions, as well as the Dairy Industry Association of Australia awards and Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards.

Bega Cheese meanwhile also won numerous awards in the 2018 Royal awards including 10 gold medals, 10 silver medals and four bronze medals, and both the Champion Cheddar Cheese award and Australian Cheeseboard Perpetual Trophy for its Heritage Vintage cheese.
The winners were announced at an awards presentation at the iconic “The Stables” overnight on Monday, February 19 at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.
Expert judges considered almost 100 classes of produce from milk through to cream, cheese, sorbet, gelato, yoghurt and ice cream.
Chairman of judges for the Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Competition, Mark Livermore said the annual entries continued to impress.
“Our exhibitors are very passionate about their craft – after all it is their livelihoods and year on year we are seeing high quality and innovation in the cheese and dairy sectors,” Mr Livermore said.
“The white milk classes were again large in number and hotly contested.
“The judges were particularly impressed with the quality of milk submitted for judging. It is this high quality milk which enables the Australian dairy industry manufacturers to produce such outstanding products.”
As always, the Sydney Royal competitions produce some fantastic stories of smaller producers mixing it with the major market operators in their respective sectors and holding their own.
“These are exciting times in the Australian cheese and dairy produce scene and the imagination of producers big and small suggests the sky's the limit,” Mr Livermore said.
Champions from all Sydney Royal Wine, Dairy and Fine Food competitions across the calendar year are eligible for consideration for the ultimate accolade, the President’s Medal, unveiled at a gala awards night at each Sydney Royal Easter Show.
