Girl Guides
Councillor Liz Seckold attended a meeting of the Bega Girl Guides to present appreciation certificates to the group for their involvement in the Australia Day ceremony. Much to her surprise she didn't see any Girl Guides but lots of girls dressed in national costume from many countries around the world where there are Guides. February 22 is World Thinking Day for Girl Guides and Scouts and the Bega girls decided to dress up, make food and talk about the various cultures around the world.

Auxiliary news
The members of the Bega and District Nursing Home Auxiliary have reported a very good year in 2017 in raising funds from their voluntary efforts to provide additional facilities for Hillgrove House. A cheque for $70,000 was presented to the board of Hillgrove House at the ball held in November and was in addition to the $90,000 presented in 2016.The funds will cover the cost of lifting equipment and slings, air mattresses, slide sheets and the blinds for the recently opened Mumbulla wing of the nursing home. This will also cover the cost of upgrading the window blinds for some of the older rooms.
The auxiliary raised these funds with the making of Anzac Day wreaths, catering for various functions and the Golden Chain run in conjunction with Lodge Bega Remembrance. The auxiliary members would like to thank everyone in the community who helped with these fundraising events and look forward to your continued support in 2018.
Day of prayer
The annual World Day of Prayer is on Friday, March 2, 10am at the Tathra Uniting Church. This year's country of focus is Suriname. It is a small country on the northeastern coast of South America. World Day of Prayer held its first service in Suriname in 1953 and has been well supported over the years by various churches in the country. All are welcome to attend the Tathra service as the local churches come together to pray for the people of Suriname. After the service, morning tea will be served.
CWA Bega
The CWA Bega branch's February meeting is on Tuesday, February 27, starting with morning tea at 10am. Special guest is the new Chief Inspector Peter Volf who will speak to our members on the subject “Register for elderly living alone”. The branch is preparing for the CWA Far South Coast Group Handicraft and Land Cookery Day to be held at the Bermagui Country Club on March 13. Members are reminded to bring their entries on Tuesday or to the handicraft morning session on March 6.
Men’s breakfast
The next get-together will be on March 3 at 8am, and you’ll get a real buzz from our guest speaker. Garry Mallard, bee-keeper and hive-maker extraordinaire, will be talking to us about bees. Bees are, of course, one of the most amazing creatures on our planet, and are fundamental to our survival. Garry will be telling us about their extraordinary lives, and much more fascinating stuff.
As usual, we’ll be cooking up a hearty breakfast, and we are looking forward to another time of relaxed, good fellowship together. All are welcome to join in and, of course, any friends you may wish to bring.
