In her two months on the job, Ms Barber said the most rewarding aspect of her work has been helping business owners succeed in what they are passionate about.
“Our business is our client’s business,” she said.
“There is always something new and exciting around the corner because this is such a diverse region, one day I could be working with a church, the next day it could be a dairy farmer.
“The most inspiring thing is that they are all passionate about what they do.”
Ms Barber describes her work as flexible and social.
She works with businesses from all around the Bega region, from Wolumla to Bermagui and Bombala to Tathra.
“I spend a lot of time going out and meeting with clients, it’s not your average office job,” Ms Barber said.
“I love driving, it’s so much fun to get out on the road and meet with people in their environment.”
Ms Barber’s work also allows her to express her creative side, liaising between her clients and Fairfax’s qualified graphic designers.
“First we sit down and have a chat about what they want to achieve, then I start sketching up ideas to send to the production team,” she said.
“We work on a few drafts together, sending them back and forth until we reach what the client is looking for.”
As a community minded person and the secretary of both the Bemboka Men’s Shed and the Bemboka Show Society, Ms Barber’s desire to help others is satisfied by her work as a sales representative.
“I’ve definitely made better connections with people and I understand how businesses can be their best in this area,” she said.
For Ms Barber, getting feedback from her clients is the job’s best reward, letting her know she has helped local businesses achieve their goals.
