Mackie, 54, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Marnie-Lee Cave, 26, who died from strangulation, before her body was thrown off Handcocks Bridge at Mogareeka in October, 2015.
After three weeks of evidence and a day and a half of deliberation, NSW Supreme Court Judge Megan Latham, who is presiding over the case, told the jury of four women and eight men on Friday morning “more time and consideration” may help them towards a unanimous verdict.
She told the jury “two days away from the concentrated attention” they have given the evidence in the trial would benefit them, before adjourning proceedings until Monday, February 19.
Eleven jurors must agree in order for a majority verdict, and if jurors cannot reach a majority decision the matter can be referred for another trial by a different jury.
