The annual gatherings provide rural, regional and coastal women the opportunity to come together, build resilience, network, learn, share experiences and support each other while gaining access to decision-makers.
The Department of Primary Industries has provided a sponsorship of $30,000. The Sapphire Coast Connections committee is beginning to develop a program for the weekend which will be held in October.
It will be the 26th such gathering. The weekend will include an address by the NSW Minister for Primary IndustriesNiall Blair, exciting keynote and local speakers, a gala dinner, numerous workshops, tours to local attractions, plus other activities that aim to showcase Merimbula’s businesses and the Bega Valley Shire.
It is estimated 250 to 300 women will attend from all parts of NSW with different and diverse backgrounds.
Committee chairwoman April Merrick said the aims of the event are to spin off economic benefit to the host town, and social benefit of skills development for the women involved including the committee members and the numerous women who will volunteer their time, ideas, passion to make the event happen.
“It is also about getting as many local women on board for the event planning so that they can get the skills to plan a big event. There are lots of opportunities for local women to help out and join, or to volunteer on the weekend of the event,” she said.
