The sprint races help the sailors practice their starts, buoy roundings and tactics, which will be helpful in the upcoming regattas.
Tony Hastings and Luca Dorrough’s MG14 “Superfly” won three of the races, Terry Kirby’s Sabre “Let the Wind” won two, and Rob Morton’s RS100 “Forty-two” won one.
The sailors thanked to Bob Harris and Jeff Hope for being Officers of the Day.
The overall winner of the sprint series is yet to be determined officials said.
As the day was so successful, another day of sprint races may be added to the program before the season ends.
Next Saturday the club will follow a morning of training with two point score Races.
The weekend of February 17 – 18 sees many of the sailors race in the Twofold Bay Regatta.
This is a full weekend of racing with a wide array of boats and classes involved, but serves as a great prelude to the Wallagoot club’s own regatta.
The Wallagoot Lake Regatta will be held on the weekend of March 10-11 and the club is seeking volunteers to help run the event.
Roles include being on a power boat and helping record the finish times with no prior experience necessary, or helping prepare lunches in the clubhouse.
Organisers said the competition on the water can be fierce – but always friendly and the club had a strong family atmosphere, while spectators were also welcome. For more information visit the club’s website: wlbc.org.au
