Two Pointscore Races were held on January 13, both of which were won by Rob and Sian Morton’s MG14, in second Terry Kirby’s Sabre, and third Neil Fisher’s Sabre.
The sole multihull entrant was Dennis Stanton’s Weta trimaran.
Locals Tony Hastings and Luca Dorrough raced in the MG14 National Titles in Sydney, where they finished 14^th out of 24 boats, despite having the second oldest boat there, losing the mast overboard in one race, having the sail fall down in another, and many other calamities.
Tony said “we went there to learn from the best; how they set their boats up and how they sail them, so that we could then improve our sailing and our boat. We’re happy that we have done that, come home with a good result, and made some new friends.”
On January 20, several fun races were held on Wallagoot Lake. No results were recorded.
The club looks forward to a variety of races on the following Saturdays, then their major event, the Wallagoot Lake Boat Club Regatta, on March 10 – 11.
Entrant numbers are expected to be boosted this year, as the regatta includes the NSW Sabre State Titles, the Inaugural South Coast NSW RS 100 Titles and NS14 Southern TT Series.
Sailing lessons at Wallagoot are available each Saturday morning by request to the Secretary, Terry Kirby.
