The fire was quickly extinguished with the Rural Fire Service attending the property in Springvale just after 2.30pm Friday, January 19.
It’s believed the fire may have been started by someone using a welder on an afternoon when the temperature gauge was ticking just over 40 degrees.
NSWRFS Far South Coast Superintendent John Cullen said that fortunately there was little wind and therefore the fire danger is not as high as the mercury would suggest.
“However, we really encourage people to have a good think about the activities they undertake on days like this,” Superintendent Cullen said.
“Mowing, grinding, welding – these are high-risk activities that shouldn’t be done on 40-degree days.
“Think carefully about what work you have planned on days like this. And also whether you have adequate water supplies and hoses should a fire start.”
Similar hot conditions are predicted across the weekend. At this stage there is no total fire ban, but keep an eye on rfs.nsw.gov.au for regular updates and particularly for changes in the weather and conditions.
