Tom caught his first kingfish on Christmas Eve – one could say; “all his Christmases had come at once!” Then, not to be outdone, he landed a larger one on December 30 (pictured).
We extend our congratulations to Tom, already a dedicated angler and an asset to the Sapphire Coast.
Weather conditions have been patchy over the past week or so, however some of our game anglers have ventured out to the shelf.
We are very happy to congratulate Jack Graham for his first marlin of the season; tagged and released from John Ford’s “The Good Ship Venus” at the first drop-off, out from Eden.
Ocean flathead, both sand and tiger, are on the chew off all our beaches Merimbula, Tura, Bournda Island and Tathra, try 20-22 fathoms.
Good snapper and morwong are reporting off Lennards Island, Haycock and Long Point.
Large drummer and luderick have been returned from Tura Headland. Best time is just before high tide.
At the Tathra Wharf large kingfish remain on the prowl and at the Merimbula Fishing Platform calamari squid are back and some large ones landed.
Fish in the Merimbula Lake remain active. Dusky flathead, bream, trevally and whiting are available.
Good tailor are prolific at Pambula Lake.
The Bega River continues to fish well at Mogareeka and some magnificent whiting are reported.
The new moon has seen a good run of prawns at both Merimbula and Wallagoot Lake.
The Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club clubhouse in Spencer Park will be open from 6.30pm on Friday, January 19.
Visitors are very welcome.
