Work on the bridge, crossing the Bermagui River, will be undertaken by Bega Valley Shire Council throughout February.
According to council, the damage is due to “the harsh environment encountered near the water surface”, also known as the “wet and dry zone”.
“The second pier from the southern end will be the focus, with damaged concrete on two columns being removed,” council said.
“Reinforcement material will be exposed, cleaned and further protected; and replacement cement poured.”
Completion of the work is expected in March, and minimal disturbance for vehicle and marine traffic will be experienced during the maintenance period, council said.
