The Club has just celebrated its 41st year and 20 years at its current Bega Country Club complex.
"While many clubs are in decline, Bega continues to hold three competitions a year with 100 players in each competition, we have a very active junior comp.”
Mr Stylianou said the club also hosted a number of tournaments and had been working to grown them with “the inclusion of a PSA tournament round and a NSW masters event a huge achievement for a small rural club”.
He said squash had huge health benefits and he was delighted to see players between seven and 80 plus taking part. “It’s great to see so many locals involved, and we are hoping to increase participation in our Junior ranks in 2018".
Mr Stylianou said support of local businesses had been a key factor in the club’s ongoing success, who sponsor tournaments, teams and even the social rounds.
He also commended the Club Bega Board and staff for their support during the year and their foresight to agree to build two extra courts back in 1997 to allow the club to continue to host competitions for such a large number of players.
Publicity officer Janelle Curtis added: "special note must be made of the ongoing support of Peter and Janelle Turner from the Grand Hotel, who have sponsored the comp and club championships for around 30 years as well as Volkswagen and Tarra Motors who have made it possible for the club to host a PSA tournament with international entries”.
The juniors have also shone on representative teams, reaching finals of the PSSA comp and competing at the NSW Championships. Bega’s young guns have made the finals for about 15 years now, illustrating their ability and consistency.
Major club award winners were club person of the year Peter Bolst, while Ryan Galeano was named most improved.
The Peter Eaton Memorial for consistency went to Chris Bartlett, while Peter O’Brien, Danny Sherlock and Francine Pearce all claimed Col Ferguson Memorial certificates.
Club champions were Scott Galeano and Leanne Crowe, while Alexander Eadie and Chloe Harlow topped the juniors.
Karen Jamieson Bega Squash Club Ambassador Award went to the masters sub-committee
Regular social play continues over the holidays, while competition returns with gradings at the end of January and everyone of any skill level is invited to join in. For more information visit the club's website or Facebook page.
The club wishes everyone a Merry Christmas.
