Prominent Merimbula businessman Laurence Delle Vergin has pleaded guilty to possessing child abuse material.

Delle Vergin, 54, who is president of the Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs rugby league club, appeared in Bega Local Court on Tuesday, December 19. According to police facts, 16 images of “naked pre-pubescent girls” had been found on his mobile phone on the afternoon of October 21 in Bermagui.
Delle Vergin’s solicitor Mark Hagan said while none of the images portrayed acts of intercourse or violence, he acknowledged there were “sexualised poses” and conceded two were “certainly in breach”, while others were “arguable in my opinion”.
The police prosecutor accepted the guilty plea on the submission several of the images were “definitely inappropriate”. Delle Vergin was fined $5000 and placed on a two-year good behaviour bond. He was also placed on the sex offenders register.
