Council will award five women aged between 18 and 25 living in the Bega Valley a $500 scholarship to help support them to pursue their aspirations and reward their hard work and motivation.
The scholarships can be awarded for any individual or community initiative developed by young women.
Council’s community engagement coordinator, Anne Cleverley, said the goals of last year’s recipients were very different and reflected what was important to the applicants.
“The scholarships were used towards first aid qualifications, purchasing a laptop and living costs. One recipient used the scholarship to help fund her own ‘zine,” Ms Cleverley said.
“We encourage applications from any young woman with a dream or idea they want to pursue.”
IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The theme for 2018 is Press For Progress highlighting the importance of collaboration towards gender equality.
Applications for the IWD scholarship close at midnight on 26 January 2018 and will be awarded as part of International Women’s Day celebrations in March 2018.
