The Swim and Survive program will be run at Candelo Pool from Friday, January 8 to Monday, January 18.
Office of Sport cheif executive Matt Miller said enrolments are still open for the 57 locations across the state and places are filling fast.
“The Office of Sport delivers Royal Life Saving Society’s national Swim and Survive program to infants, pre-schoolers and primary school-age children, with most classes held over nine consecutive weekdays,” Mr Miller said.
“Swimming is an important life skill and a fun form of exercise. Kids and parents will notice the improvements in their child’s swimming and confidence that comes from the extra practice of a daily program.”
The recent National Drowning Report 2017 from Royal Life Saving Society indicated 291 people drowned in Australian waterways in 2016/17.
Compared to the previous 2015/16 year, drownings among children aged 0-4 years increased by 32 per cent and drownings among children aged 5-14 years increased by 8 per cent.
“Lessons cater for children aged 18 months to 12 years and provides everything from water awareness through to stroke development and swimming endurance,” Mr Miller said.
“I encourage parents to enrol their child today in this important program.”
The Swim and Survive Program costs $51 for preschool children and $72 for school ages children, not including pool entry. A sibling discount rate of $51 is available for any additional school-age children enrolled in the same program.
