Lachlan performed well across the board to receive an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Entrance Rank) of 90.05.
He intends to use his impressive rank to study sciences and language in Melbourne.
While the fields of biochemistry and learning Spanish may seem fields apart, Lachlan has a plan to combine the double degree to good benefit.
“I love science, but I thought I’d also study languages so I can do study exchanges and see if I can get into the global science community,” he said at school on Friday while passing teachers all offered congratulations.

Lachlan was visiting his school during a work break and said his workmates were all almost as anxious as he was that morning waiting for the ATARs to be revealed.
“I was anxious to start with and everyone was asking what did I get.
“I’d forgotten my UAC [University Admissions Centre] PIN though so couldn’t get my results!” he added with a laugh.
A few helpful phone calls later and he was in and learning the good, although not entirely unexpected, news of breaking the 90 barrier.
While Melbourne is his intention, Lachlan said he has already been granted early entry to a chemistry course at University of Wollongong as a Dean’s scholar.
Eden Marine careers adviser Michelle Bond said “the world’s his oyster”.
The same applies to fellow biology student Hannah Webster, who Lachlan just pipped into top place for Eden.
Ms Bond said Hannah was currently holidaying in Indonesia but very excited about her marks and attaining early entry into medicine at UOW.
As for a move from the Valley to Melbourne, Lachlan said it’s a little daunting but something he is looking forward to.
“I love my family of course, but I want to get out and see things.”
