Contempt for youth
I have just been advised of the councillors’ decision not to back the application for the flight college at Frogs Hollow.

I’m only 25 and don’t have a lot of experience in the politics being played, but I am well accomplished in the aviation industry gained by hard work and moving away from my family and friends in Merimbula and Bega because there was nothing on offer in the area. Many of my friends are still languishing with low paid, part time or unfulfilling work.
I thought it was up to the older generation and people like the shire councillors to create opportunities for the younger generation. But when I take up the challenge, all they want to do is protect their position by denying a future for me and the other youth in the valley.
While several councillors have engaged with the ill-informed no campaign, not one has taken the opportunity to call me to discuss the college proposal. With the amount of information we have put out including a fact check each week you would think there may have been one question from at least one of the councillors.
As a young person working in the fantastic growing industry of aviation I’m taking the contempt shown by some of the older generation towards me as personal and I’m going to take up the challenge for myself and on behalf of all the young people out there looking for a better future.

Flight school an insult
The proposed flying school for Chinese pilots at Frogs Hollow is an insult to Bega district ratepayers. Sports Aviation Australia is now on notice from opposition groups and citizens that we, collectively and indivdually, will fight this proposal.
So many shocks in the DA – “analysis concludes that the proposed development as described herein is, under the guidelines, is not classified as potentially hazardous and not classified as potentially dangerous”.
With a roof area the size of a football field, aviation fuels, its own sewerage plant to spray on site, 360 students, 200 day visitors and how many trips in and out to service these “squadrons”, anyone other than the developers would think this is both hazardous and offensive. And that’s even before you start on the noise, a brutal stressor to the innocent people below, air pollution, fire risk and security. I urge everyone to read the DA soon and object in writing. this is our shire, our peace and our future.

Stadiums shocker
Dear Mr Constance, this is the first letter I have ever written to a member of parliament, but I am so incensed by the flagrant waste of money for the rebuilding of the two sports stadiums in Sydney that I am forced to voice my horror at this proposal!
The region you represent, like so many more in this state, is so, so in need of funds in so many areas, that the spending of this proposed $3billion should make it impossible for you, as our elected representative, to sleep at night.
Our health services are in a shambles, our hospital, although a wonderful new structure, is inadequately staffed and services are just not readily available, especially in the fields of mental health. This area has a sickeningly high suicide rate, way above the state average and even though we are luckily getting a headspace service next year, much money needs to be spent on this, and looking at all ways of health preventative measures to improve outcomes, especially for young people in this region.
It behooves those who are elected to do the best for their people and by supporting this shameful waste of our money you are definitely not doing your best for us.
Spend these funds on local sports and facilities, and health services for everyone.
To say there will be electoral consequences for this shameful waste of taxpayers money is indeed stating the obvious, but maybe that has to be done!
