Return and Earn scheme raises questions
Most people I know in this area have to go to Bega for shopping/banking/work etc so earn some money back on those trips by taking your bottles and cans as well! If you don't go to Bega at all, no big fuss, recycle as always and carry on living your life. The winner here is our environment, which is the whole point.

Why do we need to rely on barcodes and then go to a particular supermarket to redeem a voucher for cash? Surely there could be a card swipe system, swipe your credit card of choice at the return site, automatic credit the refund to the card.

They are putting up the price of the drinks 15c...then you go to all this bother, just to get the same amount of money back! Stupid!

At least we don't have to travel to SA to return them now, be thankful we are moving ahead, not negative. It's just the beginning of better things.

This is a brilliant idea . It has been this way in South Australia for many years. My then five-year-old used to collect cans from speedway and would make about 200 a night picking up the cans .

I might have to start sending an invoice to council for all the hours I spend picking up trash from local parks and tourist spots. No cash back for cigarette butts and old plastic bait bags that get left everywhere.

If it stops people throwing their litter away or encourages someone to pick it up then it's a win for everybody.

Ahhh....memories of scouring the beach for those bottles that lazy people couldn't be bothered returning for the refund! Get out there kids, there's money to be made.

I was charged an extra 25c for a 600ml bottle of coke. I’ll only receive 10c back. Where’s the incentive to recycle? I’m still 15c out of pocket and I haven’t driven to Bega yet.
