Give them new names
Give them a new name and leave the sanctity of marriage to what it meant – between a man and a woman with the hope of starting a family and having children.

They have made their choice and we should respect that. Give them a new name to use rather than “marriage” though.
I have coined a new name separate for each.
For men – “Manoman”: Two men in love who vow to live, love and care for each other.
For women – “Womanowa” – two women in love who vow to live, love and care for each other.
From what I have heard on the news it is already a political ploy. It is scary that this could become “religious”. One woman I talked to said she did not care about marriage’s meaning. She was not a Christian.
Given them all their legal, human and social right, but give them new names.

Presence of mind
If it were not for a very kind gentleman’s action on the spur of the moment, I would have been yet another casualty at the hospital. I was on the travelator with my trolley, descending to the car park, at the shopping centre in Bega.
As I approached the floor level, the trolley swung out of control and I was spun around.
At this point, a spur of the moment action by a bystander stopped me from falling and hitting my head against the moving rail.
This very kind gentleman caught me from the back and avoided my fall. If it was not for his presence of mind I might not have survived. I wish to thank him sincerely and wish him Godspeed. Unfortunately I do not know who he is!
After recovering I proceeded to the trolley bay area and the assistant there carried my parcels to my car.
A wonderful end to an unusual experience. Thank you to all concerned.

Points to ponder
It was interesting to read in the BDN recently praise for the development of a flying school at Frogs Hollow. It detailed all the anticipated benefits to the Bega Valley. This seemed like the Valley’s saving grace.
I did not see anywhere in the article how this could have a negative impact on the people of the Valley and in particular those who live in close proximity to the airport.
If, in the future, we have 1200 students a year taking off and landing from Frogs Hollow, the noise would be almost nonstop. The whole Valley would have these small planes flying around all day. Will this be seven days a week? How many hours per student per course?
Can you imagine the exhaust emissions and what it will do to people’s tank water and dam water along with the risk to ground and pasture contamination?
Most importantly, the continual overhead flights, no matter how many a day, will take away privacy from anyone who is under their flight path. This will not only be around the airport but the whole Valley.
Another point would be the devaluation of properties around the airfield and adjoining areas. Such a development would surely be adverse, not only to existing properties but any future housing developments between Bega and Wolumla (if anyone wanted to in those circumstances).
A test case was carried out on a local residence when the garbage tip (let’s call it for what it is) was approved with the property being devalued by the Valuer Generals Department. Council rates and land values were adjusted accordingly. One would imagine this would be a similar case.
These are only a few points to ponder but a development of this type would destroy our image as a peaceful and green area, take away our privacy at all of our homes and the peaceful ambiance we are used to and deserve as well as having an impact on tourism and development in the shire.
Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
