Students from all grades maneuvered their way through an obstacle course mapped out in roped barriers and tyres supplied by Beaurepairs Bega.
Along the way they were splashed with colours and sprayed with a fire hose, brought along by Bega Fire and Rescue.
Teacher Mick Bulters loves sport and his role as a teacher in the special education unit. He said the colour run was a great way to benefit both at Bega High School.
“The kids have been raising money to improve our gym, we want to bring in new equipment that will make the gym more accessible to all of our students,” he said.
“The kids deserve good sports equipment and we’re trying to focus on projects that support underprivileged kids.”
Mr Bulters said the fundraising efforts of the students had been phenomenal, with some individual students raising up to $800 through their online fundraiser.
“It’s pretty incredible effort and this is just a really fun way to go about it, the kids get to run around and get messy and we raise funds in the process.”
He also thanked the Year 11 cohort for organising the event.
Aside from providing the fire hose, firefighter Jai Heffernan of Bega Fire and Rescue was also on the scene to give a fire awareness presentation to the students.
His talk was based on fire escape plans are fire detectors in the home.
“This is a really good way to reach out to the kids, we enjoy doing this public relations work with them,” Mr Heffernan said.
“Plus it’s pretty fun to spray them with the hose.”
Bega High School students will continue to fundraise after the event to boost their final total.
