The first division cricket team’s innings was all but lost except for Bennett, who stayed on at the crease to knock 78 not-out, as Tathra ran out a close win over the Pirates on 7/138.
The Sea Eagles won the toss, but sent the hosts out to bat with the match held on Dalmeny Oval on Saturday.
A good open and a middle order stand salvaged what would have otherwise been a very cheap innings.
Pirates opener Jordan Dibden finished on 43 not-out, while Simon Mackie had a good outing with a well-controlled 54 batting at number four.
Meanwhile, the rest of the order had fallen over cheaply with the Pirates finishing their innings on 6/136.
Hamish Wilcox was the pick of the Tathra bowlers, absolutely destroying the middle order with four wickets for just 31 runs.
When the visitors took the crease, Bennett quickly got to work chipping away at the target, but he found himself steadily running out of batting partners.
Chris Dwyer was returned to the sheds for just six runs, while Gordon Wiegold was dismissed shortly after on four.
When Jory Taylor, Tynan Taylor and Geordie Gibbs were dismissed for six, three and two respectively, things started to look doubtful for the visitors.
However, Bennett kept plugging away with the bat as he passed his half-century.
A decent knock of 13 from Daniel Ryan before he was runout helped tip Tathra to the result.
Tathra finished 8/139 with two overs to spare.
