Both ladies rode two winners at the Sapphire Coast Turf Club in some well-contested fields.
MacFarlane rode Dure to the front of the pack in a hotly contested Bega District News handicap race two.
Four were tightly grouped into the final 100-metre dash with MacFarlane riding Dure to a sneaky inside run to seal a close win.
Frater-Hill’s first win came later in the Bombala Times Benchmark race four, riding Orange Time.
She was able to make a break for the front in the final 200m sprint to win by half-a-length from Secret Image ridden by Nick Souquet.
MacFarlane backed up for her second winner in race five, riding Cop A Nip.
Again it was a close field with Flash Magic running a close second just a head behind after the pair challenged each other in a sprint.
Then in race six it was Frater-Hill’s turn to double her winnings with a dash on Goldmine out of the Matthew Dale stables.
In a repeat of earlier races, it came down to an outside sprint as Goldmine and Inch Perfect ran neck-and-neck, while a great display from Warrigal Mac faded on the inside to fall off at the finish.
Michael Travers had a solid outing at the seven-race meet, riding Whispered Prayer to a win in race seven, while also securing three third-place finishes.
Officials said the spring race meet was a fantastic prelude to Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
There will be a five race card in support of the ‘race that stops the nation’ with free buses to and from the track.
Despite ongoing downpours in Bega and surrounds at the time of print, club secretary/manager Rob Tweedie said the turf club had only absorbed about 10mm of rain by lunch time on Monday.
“There is no doubt it will be a wet track for the Cup Day, but the rain is expected to push off and it will be a good day of racing regardless,” Tweedie said.
Known as the biggest fashion day of the year, Tweedie said there would be no shortage of people dressed to the nines.
There will be fashions on the field competitions with some exceptional prizes on offer.
“We’re expecting a bumper crowd and we would encourage everyone to come along and join in the fun.”
You will also be able to donate to Dane Waites in his efforts, with Dane to run a lap of the course and receive a $500 cheque from the club.
Gates open at noon and pick up locations and times are available at www.sapphirecoastturfclub.com.au.
