Bega’s Jim Campbell was walking the streets on Friday handing out rainbow-coloured socks in support of marriage equality.
At 14 years old, Jim is too young to have a vote in the federal government’s postal survey, but has been motivated to speak up in support of the issue.
In September he joined his best mate Eddie Blewett and Eddie’s two mums on their return trip to Parliament House to speak out for equality, and now he is making his own statement by starting a social media campaign with the rainbow socks.
On Friday he was tailed through Bega by a cameraman and journalist/presenter from SBS Viceland, with a documentary, in which Jim and his socks are to play a part, to air in early November.
Jim said it was hard at first to put himself in front of the camera, but that it was pleasing to see his campaign stance garnering such interest.
Keep an eye out on Instagram for Jim’s hashtag #SocksForSameSexMarriage.
